Welcome to Blogtopia

PTS has been graced by some conservative readers. After reading a few comments, I had a coupla' thoughts here. . .

This is a site for the democratic wing of the democratic party. We are not looking for middle ground, we are not looking to convince any moderate rethugs to come over to a reality based America.

The LAST thing we want/need is "friendly" advice from folks who refuse to recognize that by voting republican this Nov. 2nd "conservatives" voted for:

-A pension bailout crises costing taxpayers BILLIONS CLICK HERE
-Unchecked war profiteering costing the taxpayers BILLIONS CLICK HERE
-Putting "activist" judges (Guess conservative activists are OK!) on the supreme court CLICK HERE
-Getting rid of ALL checks and balances CLICK HERE
-A fascist form of government for the first time CLICK HERE

On and on and on and on . . .

Can you be for these things and be "conservative"? Really?!!!

Republicans, this war you lied America into that has killed 1235 good men and women is YOUR mess, the massive debt is YOURS, YOU are now the "guv'ment" you constantly bitch about.

Lastly . . . why this blog . . . because the Declaration of Independence calls patriots to dissent:

" . . .--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to ALTER or to ABOLISH it, and to institute new Government . . ."

Here is the challenge for conservatives. . . admit that this sh** is happening, own up to the fact that it is wrong, and admit that you will hold yourselves 'accountable" (remember that little gem from Shrub in 2000?) Rhiiiiight . . .

Liberals . . . 51% is not a frikkin' mandate. WRITE, FIGHT, and realize that we are the ones struggling to never let the America we love go quietly into the night.

  1. Yes, you can be for all those things and be a conservative because that is what conservatism is - preservation of the aristocracy. In America the aristocracy is the corporate elite and almost everything that has come from Bush Inc. over the past four years has been designed to protect America's rich:

    - Bush, Inc. sat idly by until the last minute while Enron and other energy traders raped Californian consumers.
    - Bush, Inc. has pushed through tax cuts that heavily favor, if not solely benefit, the investor class.
    - Bush, Inc. has championed environmental legislation that eases restrictions on polluters and lets logging and mining companies use federal lands for a song.
    - The war in Iraq? It is a stain on our country that will never be erased and it was started for the benefit of the investor class. Period. It has nothing to do with an evil dictator or protecting America from terrorism.

    Small government and sane fiscal policy are only conservative principles when they serve conservative ends. These days intrusive government suits the conservatives, so long as it is the bedroom and not the boardroom that is intruded upon. None of the American aristocrats will have to deal with the mess they've created. Bush, Inc. likes to talk tough about not asking any other nation for "permission" to protect ourselves, but I bet they take on a different tone of voice when it is time to go begging Chinese communists for money.

    I've heard and read a lot of comments about how Bush isn't a conservative. I disagree. I think he is the ultimate conservative.

    I think you are right. The thugs on the right have branded liberals, let's brand them.

    Will you post your thoughts on what conservatives now stand for based on your good response?

    In the past few months, I've enjoyed participating on this blog. I've shared the religious beliefs and life experiences that have shaped me into who I am politically. Despite our obvious differences, I've tried to keep the discourse civil; my goal was to shed more light than heat. At least one blogger was appreciative of that tone. In an exchange re "They will do/say anything Part 424" (10/22/04), r. spacedark wrote:

    "We're glad to have you as a dissenting voice as long as you keep things as thoughtful as you have. You don't have to be nice. We don't intend to be nice to you. But the mindless abuse of some trolls is just ... well, mindless. We hate that."

    If my posts have ceased to be thoughtful or have been in any way mindless or abusive, I apologize. That was never my intent. Through the exercise of formulating my political beliefs into words, I've learned that I'm probably a bit more libertarian than I would have believed a few months ago. For that self-revelation, I have you all to thank. You haven't converted me into a Democrat, any more than I have converted any of you into Republicans (I haven't, have I? ;)), but you have made me think. If I did the same for you, the time I invested in this blog was worth it. Hopefully, in the future when you think of the Red-Blue Divide in this country, you'll remember me and say to yourself, "I may disagree with their politics [maybe even vehemently], but at least there's one conservative out there that isn't an ignorant, uneducated, bigoted redneck."

    In reviewing some of the posts I've read since I started visiting this blog last July, I've noticed some personality traits have emerged. Whereas blogarillo and r. spacedark have been thoughtful and respectful for the most part, Prodigal Son and Panhandle Truth Squad (and his/her alter ego Liberalator) tend to be a little more mean-spirited. This seems to be a microcosm of the Democratic Party on the national level. Since my friendly advice is no longer welcome, I'll leave it to y'all (a favorite word of this transplanted upstate New Yorker) to work out which faction will emerge as dominant. Maybe you can peacefully co-exist. Only time will tell.

    I'll stop by from time to time to read what you have to say, but this will be my last post. It's been an adventure. I wish all of you (choose one or more of the following): Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Joyous Winter Solstice; and a Happy New Year!

    Glad you stopped by, but if you cannot stand the heat, don't let the door etc., etc.

    PTS does not beg conservatives to stay.

    A debate on this blog perhaps? But "Anonymous" ain't gonna cut it. Get a moniker.
