It was Bush's "Leave no Billionaire Behind" tax cuts that blew this giant hole in the budget in the first place. Let the local media know about it:

  1. Yet they have no trouble at all coughing up $6.1 billion for 23 helicopters. Thats about $265 million each.

The conservatives' love of the military industrial complex and their contempt for the non-elite is shocking.

  3. This certainly appears to be the budget with SOMETHING in it to tick off absolutely EVERYONE. So how do we best use this to our advantage, givem that some people are so invested in Bush? Take my dad, for example: has voted Republican forever, but is a strong supporter of railroads. He thinks the government should subsidize a national passenger railway system, so obviously he shouldn't be thrilled that funding to Amtrack is being eliminated. But how do I bring it up in a way that will convince him rather than start a fight? Suggestions?

  4. The only method, for lack of a better word, that has ever brought me success is to discuss the topic without bringing political parties into it. I don't know that I've ever changed anyone's mind, but the seeds are there. Maybe when that person gets screwed over, and sooner or later they will, those seeds will sprout and grow. That sounds very idealistic, but I believe it to be true.

  5. Thanks. My SO mentioned yesterday that she had spoken to a colleague who said "I voted for Bush and I like Bush but all th e things he's cutting make me sad." My sense is that the administration way over-reached with this budget-- but I also think that it was in part foredoomed when he sent out all the $500 checks a couple of years ago. In a way, I think it serves him right to have been re-elected and have to try to clean up his own tax cut mess.
