Is this is the new dollar coin Charles Paul Stephens whines about in today's Globe-Republican? Because it clearly states "In God We Trust". I guess I can't blame Stephens for wanting God's Power to back our currency, as these days that's probably the only thing backing it. I can, however, blame him for being a douche bag.
It took about 1 minute to look those coins up on the inter-googles, so I think a big "screw you" is owed to the Globe-Republican for printing that incendiary, fact-free crap. If such currency does exist they should at least demand to know what exactly it is.

Songs that still rock
This story had the most unbelievable picture:
Hey you prosperity christians, you're worshipping at the foot of Mammon.
Which reminded me of this song that introduced me to the industrial genre.

Say It Ain't So, Joe
George Schwarz
© The Amarillo Independent
In 2001, Kirsten Andrea Olson went to Cornerstone Outreach Center to ask for help with rent money. Five hours after visiting the center, she filed allegations with the Amarillo Police Department that Joe Kirkwood, now Precinct 3 Potter County commissioner and a self-styled pastor, asked her to reveal her breasts and genitals to check her for needle marks, according to a police report dated Sept. 5, 2001.
The Amarillo Police Department and the city’s attorney declined to take any further action. Olson has since married and is now Andrea Bradshaw. She spoke exclusively to the Independent and KVII Channel 7’s Chris Hegstrom, who collaborated on this story.
A copy of the APD report obtained by The Amarillo Independent was
determined by several sources to be legitimate and reflects a “she-said-he said” situation. The city of Amarillo did not provide the report, instead requesting that the Texas Attorney General determine if a complaint filed with a police department and the other material in the file are public records.
The Oct. 30 issue is being distributed and Channel 7 has run the story here: http://www.kvii.com/news/news_story.aspx?id=214296

Another Banishment Letter to the Editor
I don’t normally read the Amarillo Globe-News anymore, which obviously means I abnormally read it, so the following letter caught my eye, though it didn’t quite drag it out of its socket:
Letters to the Editor, Monday October 20, 2008(Re: Susan Estrich’s column, Oct. 11)
Why does the Globe-News carry
her opinion, inasmuch as she always votes Democratic every four years?
I would hope she is more “democratic” than that.
Lorne
Tiernagel
Amarillo
The Globe-News is quite fond of reminding us that many of its readers find non-Republican opinion objectionable, and think it odious to have it printed in the first place. There have been many fine letters demanding that liberal columnists, such as Ivins and Pitts, be banned. Censorship would appear to be a popular sentiment around these here parts.
How often may a columnist vote Democratic to be acceptable? Once every eight years? Twelve? Twenty? One-hundred?
Tiernagel hopes Estrich will be “more ‘democratic’” and vote Republican. As we pause very briefly to “ha, ha” let us recall that there have been a multitude of liberal bashers from Tiernagel’s political camp who have belabored the point that we do not live in a democracy but in a republic, making “voting democratic”, “democratic process” and “democratic freedom” in this country a logical fallacy. If it were up to Republicans like Tiernagel it would be a real impossibility. "Ha . . . ha."

you cast a spell on me
Last night, Mrs. Spacedark hit me several times.
We attended The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Civic Center. Part of the show involves audience participation. Four members of the audience are chosen to go up on stage and be "spellers". When you apply to participate, you are asked if you "are a good speller." Wednesday night, one Lester "Overdue Justice" Simpson was chosen to be a part of the show.
When that was announced, I shouted, "He can't spell; he publishes the Amarillo Globe-News!"
That's when my wife hit me.
For the rest of the evening, whenever we found ourselves among a different group I shouted "Les Simpson can't spell; he publishes the Amarillo Globe-News!"
Each time, my wife hit me.
But I still think I was right.

Joe FlurblePlumber
Who? Yeah, me too. I had not seen the video of "Plumber Joe Wurzelbacher" on the intertubes, so when it came up on the debate recaps, I admit I had no idea who this dude was.
I was on a plane during the last debate, but this Joe guy was blabbed about by Grampy McCrankypants over and over, and it set off my BS detector big time. Here is the vid of him confronting Obama.
I thought Barack did a good job explaining, but as they say here in the south, "If some people don't know, you can't tell 'em."
Some news for Joe and others who have bought the boolsheet McSame is feeding them:
I'm not a CPA, so I called mine about Joe, and she stated that he could probably operate the business he says wants to buy as an S Corp or maybe an LLC. That Corporate entity would be paying taxes on profit. Not on gross receipts.
Joe personally, would probably never show over $250K in income. His CPA would shield him from any tax hits by having him buy deductible assets.
McCain is making up stories to scare the average working person, who needs education about basic money management and financial issues.
Next stop "Joe the Plumber" vs. "Joe Six Pack" LIVE on UFC!
-Prodigal Son
_______________
UPDATE: So let's see. Joe the Plumber is not registered to vote. Joe the Plumber admits he makes much less than $250k (To Katie on CBS) so will in fact pay less taxes under Obama than under McCain. Joe keeps railing on Obama. Joe the Plumber's dad is a big Republican donor. Can this story get any more stoopid? -P.S
_______________
UPDATE DEUCE: Per Texas Moderate, Joe Plumber is a Repub. HERE. Undecided voter? Yeah, right . . . -P.S.

Candidates Debate
A wonderful and rare opportunity to see all of our candidates on the same stage.
The League of Women Voters of Amarillo will host a Candidates Forum on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at the Senior Citizens' Center, 1220 S. Polk St., in the main hall. The reception will start at 6:30 and the forum will begin at 7:00. Each opposed candidate will give a three-minute presentation of his/her qualifications and positions, after which the audience may submit written questions. The moderator will be Pattilou Dawkins.
The Voters Guides will be available for distribution that evening.
It's important to the candidates that we show up "in force" and lend some enthusiastic support, and in turn providing a great visual for the press. There is power in numbers. If we can be there for Roger and Robert and Cristol and others, then it will make people watching (and Mac Thornberry as well) sit up and take notice!
Come and support our Democrat candidates, who are going way out of their way....to support you!

He's by far the better candidate, but that's not why we're endorsing him.
We're endorsing him because we're rabid partisans.

Mighty Oaks, etc.
I just accomplished a feat for the first time - (Oops, wrong word - struggled, suffered, labored would be more appropriate) I made it through a Michelle Malkin editorial in the Amarillo Globe Republican about the "rampant Corruption among ACORNs". Okay maybe not every word, but at least scanned.
The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) has been registering lower income and minority voters for a long time by hiring (often low income or out of work) people to find and register these folks. They are paid by the hour, not by the registration. Malkin, using four anecdotal examples with, as usual, no data accuses ACORN of registering unqualified voters supportive of Barack.
The implication is that thousands upon thousands of ineligible voters will show up at the polls to distort the vote. Michelle needs to work as an election judge or be an observer in a county clerk's office. The judge or county clerk will catch multiple names or "Mickey Mouse" and toss them out. And anyone one showing up at the polls risks being charged with a felony.
Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo (TPM) reported "The Justice Department devoted unprecedented resources to ferreting out fraud over five years and appears to have found not a single prosecutable case across the country."
The Repubs are starting to get desperate to find the reason President-Elect Obama beat McCain't. Give it up Michelle!

alaska is just like texas, only more so
Sarah Palin has already reminded Texans that Texas isn't the biggest state, and that they're not the only state with nutcases who want to secede. Now her family reminds them that they're not even the biggest rednecks...
The report notes a few instances in which Palin pressed the case against trooper Mike Wooten, but it was her husband, Todd, who led the charge. Todd Palin had extraordinary access to the governor's office and her closest advisers and he used that access to try to get Wooten fired.spacedark
Gov. Palin knowingly "permitted Todd to use the Governor's office and the resources of the Governor's office, including access to state employees, to continue to contact subordinate state employees in an effort to find some way to get Trooper Wooten fired," Branchflower's report reads.
Wooten had been in hot water before Palin became governor over allegations that he illegally shot a moose, drank beer in a patrol car and used a Taser on his stepson. The Palins said they feared for their family's safety after Wooten made threats against them.

Wachovia Broke, Loans Repubs $8mm
Per Roll Call:
"The National Republican Congressional Committee, trailing its Democratic counterpart considerably in cash on hand, has secured an $8 million loan to spend on House races during the last few weeks of the campaign, according to sources.
The NRCC reported $14.4 million in cash on hand as of Aug. 31, compared to $54 million in the bank for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. As it did last cycle, the NRCC is procuring its loan from Wachovia Bank, sources confirmed."
Your tax money, in the form of FDIC insurance, is the only string holding up Wachovia and making them viable for a Wells-Fargo merger.
This bullsh*t has got to end with some top corporate folks going to jail, and refunding us EVERY CENT they made in salary and bonus.
The motto of the US taxpayer this year needs to be, "You want a loan, a bailout? Then we own your ass."

Boo, Hoo!
I could hardly contain my tears Monday (October 6th) when I listened to Dick Fuld (Lehman CEO) talk about how badly he felt about Lehman Brothers collapsing. He's had to struggle to live on $480 million this decade, and he's had to slum it in his $7 million Greenwich estate with just eight bedrooms, tennis court, pool and indoor squash court; his vacation home on Jupiter Island in Florida ($14 mil); a ski home in Vermont; a Sun Valley, Idaho home; and a 16 room full floor apartment on Park Avenue ($21 mil) still undergoing $10 million dollars in renovations. And the poor guy has had to put his $20 million dollar art collection up for sale! He sadly said he didn't get any severance pay or golden parachute. Mr. Fuld concluded "I can look at you [the congressional committee] and say, this is a pain that will stay with me the rest of my life, regardless of what comes out of this committee, and regardless of what the record-book will say when it’s finally written.”
And then today I read that the American International Group (AIG) executives, after receiving their $85 billion bailout and an additional $32.8 billion, went on an outing to the exclusive coastal St. Regis resort in California with catered banquets, golf outings and visits to the spa to the tune of $440,000 and were planning another in months to come! Poor guys. They really need your and my money!

Republicans Uber Alles
UPDATE: This dipshit Sherriff, who slammed Obama at a S. Moosechunks rally, WHILE IN UNIFORM, should be fired today IMO.
MORE HERE on how the Rethug party apparently prefers to become the national socialist party rather than lose an election -PS
Things are getting ugly out there. McCain supporters are shouting out "Terrorist!" when McShame mentions Barack.
At Sarah Moosechunk rallies, reporters are threatened and racial epithets shouted. One man said, "Kill him!"
Watch the short video below. The American News Project went inside a pro-Palin rally set up by the McCain campaign to watch the vice presidential debate, and supporters booed moderator Gwen Ifill and laughed when Sen. Joe Biden got choked up talking about his first wife and daughter's deaths.
There is no decency, no honor, no integrity coming from the scum of the earth McShame supporters. (The only ones still backing his horror show). Does inciting violence and hatred ever influence the masses?
Yep, it does. And righties . . . if you have one ounce of decency, you will write the AGN or your local paper denouncing this. Otherwise, to this blogger, your silence shows support. Enough.

Not Another 4 years!
Other than the intolerable "down home," winky, winky, "g" dropping populist B.S. presented as debate, the one thing that has infuriated me for eight years now showed up last night in Sarah's ramblings. She and George B. can't say nuclear. Say “new” as in Newt; say “cle” as in clear; say “er” as in her. Now put the sounds together. Good Grief ! NUCULUR.

Sarah MooseChunks Vs. The Bidenator
My guess is that upwards of 50 mm Amurkins will watch the debate tonight. If This Guy is right, Palin is not so much a good debater, but an artful dodger.
Will that pull her numbers up? Firm up support from women? We'll see, but Gwen Ifill is the moderator, and McSames campaign has been working her over to "keep it fair".
